Susannah is an amazing writer. Four days ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This is her recollection of the events of that day and the appointments leading up to it.
It’s weird, I guess, to go through life thinking something like this won’t happen to you - that everyone is impervious to such things. And then it happens to someone as verbose and gifted as...
Those who can do, do. Those who can’t do, teach.
Those who can’t teach, shouldn’t. It ain’t easy for a teacher. Teaching isn’t easy.
Who taught the doer to do? The teacher. And when you’re really good, even when you do do, you still have to teach to some degree.
Where did that saying come from, anyway?
I’m not a fan of her music, but damn do I respect her as an artist.
On being an influence to today’s youth:
“It’s easy to say, ‘Well I’m 21 now. I can do what I want. Raise your own kids’ But it’s just not like that…You have to realize that as an artist, you’re raising the next generation. So your words matter.”

We demand that NBC reverse its crazy decision to ‘bench’ Community. The show is the best one on TV and NBC should renew it immediately!
Reblog this if you love "Community" and want NBC...
I’m writing an essay for Psychology of Media about Community and I’m slowly re-reliazing how awesome this show is for all of its nit-picky media and meta details. This character analysis and societal reflection thing is getting interesting.
This article is a great summation of a great episode “Critical Film Studies” and an exemplary essay on why Community is so awesome.
Wake up, wake up, wake up it’s the first of the month…
The dawn of a new month beckons a few things: 1) Pay rent 2) New cycle of bills 3) Opportunity for a personal mini renewal/refresher
What’s particularly interesting about this first of the month is that it is by far the biggest get-shit-done month. After sitting in a coffee shop for a few hours doing work, I stumbled on a few thoughts....

Excerpt from an e-mail from the Volunteer Director at CHO:
“There is only this moment and the next moment. Every one of those moments is a test that you get to take one time, and only one time. If you see an opening, tear into it. That moment is a crossroads where everything you want will collide with everything standing in your way. You’ve got momentum at your back, fear and doubt...

Young. Broke. Beautiful.
Yeah I’m broke. But I’ll make up for it later. Focus on the beautiful. And another that isn’t often included—brilliant. Re-define youth:
Young. Broke. Beautiful. Brilliant.
Change
Warranted or not, it is undeniably inevitable. Can’t run from it, so the only thing to do is embrace it. I’ve realized that I need change. I actually thrive on change. (So does the world in general, whether its individuals choose to believe it or not.) Change is like the fresh air of the first rain. Without it, I’m stuck in the suffocating stuffiness of hot, stagnant air. I...

As well as tackle a man to the ground before arresting him who was simply trying to talk to a cop, put their knee to a protesters throat as they arrest him, punch a civilian in the face and mass arrest and pepper spray innocent rioters for ridiculous reasons.
NYPD has a history of harassment and power-tripping incidences; it’s kind of ridiculous. but don’t listen to...

The Coming War on American Poverty
With the folding of Solyndra, talk of the UC Regents possibly increasing tuition again, and the general state of both the national and global economy, articles like For Jobs, It’s War are becoming more and more common. There are some pretty basic observations that seem intuitive to the success and viability of job market growth (in my opinion) and of course, they start with education.

Thursday Evening Thoughts
At the dawn of a new semester, I find myself more than ever, and with greater frequency than ever, thinking, “What will this all amount to?” More than just a question of career and not to be mistaken with unhappiness or dissatisfaction, as my classes are stimulating and my professors are influential. At the end of the day, I find myself becoming increasingly inspired by...

What would happen if everyone was required to... →

This would apply to everyone making 300% over poverty. And of this group, how many actually spend over 10% out of pocket on healthcare? A fraction. These stats are hard to find, but I’d wager that 80-85% of people could spend less than $5,000 per year on actual healthcare usage. If you make $50,000 a year as a family, you spend $5,000 out of your own pocket on healthcare before...

Just like the movies/Random thoughts on the news
I was listening to news broadcasts about the riots in England, failing domestic and international economies, never-ending deficits, civilian abductions around the world sans local government protection, asylum seekers, public resignations and local attacks and I think, wow, the world seems more and more like the plot of V for Vendetta… Then I wonder if: these occurrences are really...
I miss New York. I miss the hustle and bustle of the city, the life that is the polar opposite of where I’m living now. I miss crowds of random people, walking anonymously amongst anonymous faces in a miscellaneous crowd of brand new. I miss navigating the streets of Manhattan, walking as tall as the buildings surrounding me. I miss the ease of travel, where everything is a walk or subway...

28 Days of NYC Summer
The succinct version in order to properly record my thoughts!
Day 4 June 22 Rounds with a different physician. Work on a research proposal. Sit in on an eval conference: this was very enlightening, as it was my first experience with multi-disciplinary care. Sit in a PT session with a stroke pt. Close out with a group meeting. I believe this was my first day running along the East River. Cloudy,...

Day 3
June 21. HCOP Day 2. I meet up with the attending as well as the rest of the treatment team (a resident, intern, OT and PT) and make our morning rounds.
(Pause to do laundry.)
My first official experience with morning rounds was definitely more low key than the media makes it out to be. Not all cases are going to be those rare, what-are-the-chances-of-that-happening type of scenarios;...

Day 2
Just for referential sake, I’m recapping my days as I have time. I’m almost 2 weeks into my program here at NYU, and because I’ve been absolutely terrible in keeping a some what daily log, I’ll jot down my daily thoughts as I have time. Everything is moving so fast, and I can’t believe that in a little over 2 weeks I’ll be back to the daily humdrum of...

28 Days of NYC Summer
Day 1
I arrive in the Big Apple on a sunny Sunday afternoon, June 19. After shuffling my way through the La Guardia terminals towards the luggage carousel, it hits me. I’m in New York! The concrete jungle where dreams are made of. Pardon the Alicia Keys allusion, but it just instantly comes to mind. I experience a mild heart attack from NOT seeing my luggage makes its way around, but find...
